Cape Town – Jude Law has traded his pope robe for a pair of tighty whities in the trailer for, The New Pope.
The 46-year-old is set to return as the bad boy American Pope Pius XIII, Lenny Belardo in the upcoming HBO drama.
It is a continuation of the 2016 series, The Young Pope created and directed by Paolo Sorrentino.
In the first season finale, Lenny fell into a coma. This new season will centre on Lenny's successor Pope Giovanni Paolo I (John Malkovich).
In the trailer scenes of the new older pope amongst clerics are juxtaposed with Lenny winking as he takes a stroll on a beach in a white Speedo surrounded by female admirers.

In an interview with Variety, Paolo shared some details about the new season.
Speaking about the concept, he explained that after Jude's character goes into a coma which scientifically irreversible the church decides to bring in a new pope.
"But since we are in a territory where reason is overtaken by spiritual mysteries and by God, Jude Law's coma may not be so irreversible. It may have some unexpected novelties, so that two popes can co-exist in the episodes that follow," he said.
He also added that the new season will touch on current-events and explore religious fanaticism.
Two episodes of the new season will premiere at The Venice Film Festival this weekend.
