On Monday, Netflix released a full length trailer for the upcoming series chart the rise of Tejano musician, Selena Quintanilla Perez.

The 2-minute clip is very similar to the story explored in the 1997 film starring Jennifer Lopez. We see Selena singing as a young girl, her rise to popularity and it also takes a closer look at Selena's relationship with her family members.

Netflix has announced the premiere date for Selena.

The new series is the coming of age story of the singer Selena Quintanilla Perez who rose to stardom and tragically died at the age of 23.

The streaming service shared a teaser trailer announcing the show's premiere date with the caption: "Every legend begins with a dream. Selena: The series arrives 4 December on Netflix."

"As Mexican-American Tejano singer Selena comes of age and realises her dreams, she and her family make tough choices to hold on to love and music," reads the official synopsis of the show.

Walking Dead actor Christian Serratos will play the legendary Tejano musician who was shot and killed in 1995 by her friend and manager of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar.

The 30-year-old said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she remembers hearing Selena's music in her house growing up.

"When I got older, YouTube became a big thing, and I discovered this video of her performing 'Que Creias.' Whenever I would talk about Selena, that was the video I showed every one of her. I was able to perform that song on the show, and I was so nervous and so excited!"

The nine episode series also stars Julio Macias, Gabriel Chavarria, Noemí Gonzalez, Ricardo Chavira, Madison Taylor Baez, and Jesse Posey.
