We've seen a teaser for Barry Jenkin's limited series The Underground Railroad starring Thuso Mbedu; now Amazon has released the haunting full trailer.
Based on Colson Whitehead's novel, the 10-episode series follows Cora Randall (Mbedu), who escapes slavery from a plantation in Georgia via the rumoured Underground Railroad. After she escapes, she discovers the railroad is real. Cora's journey to freedom is threatened by a bounty hunter Ridgeway (Joel Edgerton), who will stop at nothing to get her back to the plantation she fled from.
Thuso shared the trailer on Twitter with the caption: "Great hope is the energy that fuels the engine. #TheUndergroundRailroad."

Speaking about Thuso's performance, director Barry Jenkins told Elle that she is a powerful performer. "She found a way to access this character so that when I spoke to her, I consistently saw Cora."
To prepare for the role, the Is'Thunzi actor told the publication she did a lot of research, which was "heart-breaking for her." She also drew on her own personal history as she and the character she plays are without parents.
"Having lost my mother and my father, whom I never knew, and eventually losing my grandmother in 2014, it got to a point where I kept to myself, I kept in my head—the same with Cora."
The series premieres on Amazon Prime 14 May.
