  • After making it to top 4 Vuyani Mashego became the 16th suitor Qiniso Van Damme said goodbye to on The Bachelorette SA.
  • In this Q&A, we ask the crossfitter about that final date and get to the real story behind 'braceletgate'.
  • "Qiniso had a good idea of who her suitor would be, and it didn't happen to be me," said Vuyani.

In a scene from an R&B music video, rain began to fall as Vuyani Mashego said goodbye to Qiniso Van Damme.

Since the beginning of his journey on the show, the 28-year-old had a push-and-pull relationship with Qiniso, they challenged each other, and as their connection grew, he let down his walls. However, the crossfitter caused some eyebrows to raise when Qiniso asked him about a bracelet he was wearing with the inscription from another woman.

After surviving the dreaded two-on-one date, he went on to make it to the top four. For their last date, Vuyani and Qiniso's competitiveness battled it out during quad biking followed by dinner under a tipi.

But the date got awkward when the issue of religion came up, and even more uncomfortable as an envelope with a note appeared offering them some more time in a private suite. Vuyani was keen for more time but not Qiniso. In the end, the connection they built was not strong enough as Qiniso said goodbye to Vuyani at the rose ceremony.

In this Q&A, we ask Vuyani about that final date, try to get the real story behind that bracelet from Candice, and find out whether he is still looking for love.

Going into your final date with Qiniso, how were you feeling about where you stood with her and how your relationship had developed?

Going into the final date, I felt that Qiniso and I were on great terms, I really liked how we had the playful high school type of banter, but when moments called for it, we both had a great channel of communication. So much so that we could have tough discussions.

On your date, you and Qiniso didn't get to spend some alone time together. Having seen the episode now and seeing that she did have alone time on some of her other dates. Do you think that was fair to you?

Going into an environment like this, one has to learn to let things unfold as you aren't in control of the way dates or experiences in the house are set up, so no, I don't really feel like it was unfair. I don't think more alone time would've affected our dynamic in my favour.

SAFETY FIRST: Qiniso and Vuyani get ready for quad biking on their final date.

Religion was a big topic of discussion on your date. Do you think your differences could have played a role in you not getting a rose?

Hmm, honestly, I don't think our differences played that big of a role at that stage. I feel that Qiniso had a good idea of who her suitor would be, and it didn't happen to be me.

In comparison to Gareth, you had one one-on-one date with her. Do you think this, to some extent, impacted the connection you formed with Qiniso?

I like to think that Qiniso knew where I stood with her, and therefore she didn't feel the need to have more than one, one-on-one date.

You went on the dreaded two-on-one date this season; Peter said you threw him under the bus. What are your thoughts on that?

I was asked why I should get the rose over Peter, and I gave the most honest answer. I confirmed a suspicion that Qiniso had from her one-on-one date with Gareth.

ALL SMILES: Qinsio and Vuyani share a happy moment.

Several people on social media mentioned that Qiniso made you jump through many more hoops than the other men. How do you feel about that perception, and did you at any point feel that a lot more was expected from you?

I guess viewers are pretty alert? I tend to have a very laid-back response to pressure. I quite like it, actually, so I can see why it may look as though I had many more hoops to jump through because I have the capacity to deal with it. Honestly, irrespective of the perception, I relished every moment.

So let's get into braceletgate. You've been roasted on social media about that bracelet. What's the real story behind it, and do you still wear it?

I thoroughly enjoyed how social media responded to that debacle. It was the biggest laugh I had in a while. My stuttering didn't help, but all the history and information are on my social media. It's really not that deep.

Of the three men left, who do you think is the best match for Qiniso?

Justin Lakey. Young, gifted, and black.

'A NEW START': Qinsio and Vuyani say goodbye.

Throughout your time on the show, you have shown so much growth. What is the biggest lesson you've learned from this experience?

Being yourself is exhilarating. Memento mori.

Are you still looking for love?

I am not pursuing but not opposed to it.
