You guessed it, bachelor nation! South Africa's very first bachelorette is your favourite quirky Cape Town girl, Qiniso Van Damme.
M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard, said in an announcement on Wednesday evening: "Qiniso has been a fan favourite right from the start and we know for sure that she will ignite all the passion and excitement that The Bachelorette franchise is renowned for worldwide.
"Our Queen Qiniso is quirky, sassy, sexy, smart, bold, bubbly, kind, confident, dynamic, in touch with her emotions and true to herself – the type of woman that a diverse range of successful men would find irresistible. And the timing couldn't be better. She has reached a point in her life where she is looking for someone to settle down with."
The Bachelorette is expected to air in early 2021 with filming set to start as soon as restrictions ease amid the pandemic – which Qiniso joked "has been stopping the flourish".
Channel24 was lucky enough the catch up with the fan favourite from season 2 of The Bachelor, who was all smiles when she popped up on screen during our Zoom chat.
"Yaaas, girl!" an excited Qiniso said, before bursting into laughter.
Speaking about those who were rooting for her she said: "The support I got on social media, and just, from random strangers on the road like, 'Qiniso we love you!'" she jokingly shouted, "has been so great. It feels so great to entirely be myself – as weird and as loud and bubbly as I am – it's been nice having people support me through that and just be like, 'Who you are, we love that, we love you. Please, can we help you find love.'"
The model, actress and master's degree student said of being the first bachelorette – and the first person of colour in the franchise – it's exciting and a little scary, even though she's got an entire team behind her.
"I also definitely see the importance of having a brown girl's love story be something revered, be something watched – and supported and loved," she said."I definitely see the importance personally – I mean, I'm gon' get a mans after this and a ring, girl!" she laughed. "But also the importance for all brown girls out there."
"We shouldn't just have our time as Disney princesses, but as real ones too," she said.
