Sars may pay rebates to those working from home during Covid lockdown

South Africans who’ve been forced to work from home during the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak may, depending on their circumstances, be able to claim back their expenses for doing so when they submit their annual tax returns.

But your lounge table or kitchen counter doesn’t necessarily count as a home office. The provision is linked to strict conditions. A room in your house has to be set up exclusively for working, and it may not be one used for multiple purposes.
