Twenty-seven years after apartheid and in the year declared that of Charlotte Maxeke, the struggle for the true equality of women remains a pipe dream.

In the year of Maxeke, and in her honour, gender equality and addressing the plight of women must start in earnest and take centre stage in the building of a cohesive and nonsexist society.
