Recognition of the archbishop’s pivotal role in South Africa is overdue. Tutu was a fervent opponent of injustice in all its manifestations and one cannot help wondering what he would say today, crying out like a prophet from the Old Testament into the literal and metaphorical darkness engulfing the country.
