Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) workers are up in arms because the board and management blew more than R600 000 on accommodation and flights to attend the Durban July, but failed to provide annual salary increases, citing financial constraints.
Two weeks before the annual horse racing event last weekend, trade union Nehawu had warned of strike action and a lockout, demanding a salary increase of about 10% for its members as well as outstanding bonuses from last year.
