Kgathatso Tlhakudi says his job is about putting the country first.


The permanent appointment of Kgathatso Tlhakudi as director-general of public enterprises last Friday put him at the steering wheel to drive the developmental agenda of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), a subject he is passionate about due to his personal experience with it.

Years back, Tlhakudi, an engineering student who later became a Wits University graduate, was a daily commuter on the train travelling between Johannesburg and Springs, passing through the industrial heartland of Gauteng via Germiston, Boksburg and Benoni, and eventually into Brakpan and Springs.
