Isibaya actress Zinhle Mabena was arrested last night for alleged conspiracy to commit murder, City Press has learnt.

The star who plays the character of Sihle on the soapie is set to appear at the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court today.

According to a source close to the star, Mabena was arrested at her apartment in Centurion.

"They have been looking for her since Monday but could not get hold of her. They finally found her yesterday at her place where she stays," the source said.

City Press understands that Mabena is charged for a matter from January 24, which is connection with the attempted murder of her businessman husband Robert Ngwenya.

"The case was being investigated for a while. Phone records linked her to the case," the source added.

Ngwenya was allegedly ambushed while travelling with his bodyguards. The businessman was not shot but one of his bodyguards was wounded and died in hospital a day later.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said: “A 29-year old female suspect is set to make a first appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, following her arrest on Tuesday on suspicion of being involved in the attempted murder of her husband and the murder of the husband's body guard.”

“Following an intensive investigation into the shooting incident that happened on January 28 2021, police found evidence that linked the woman to the attempted murder and murder case.”

The star and her husband have had a rocky patch in their four-year marriage and have filed for divorce.

Ngwenya was allegedly ambushed while travelling with his bodyguards. The businessman was not shot but one of his bodyguards was wounded and died in hospital a day later.

Ngwenya declined to comment and referred all questions to his lawyer, Victor Nkwashu. Nkwashu's phone was off.

City Press reported in January that Mabena was involved in a car accident that left a man from Vooslorus mentally handicapped.

The star was driving her husband’s luxury Porsche Panamera when she collided with  a red Corolla while allegedly driving at high speed.

The man,  who was a taxi marshall at the time, was left mentally disturbed and his family is seeking justice.
