Mantashe is SA’s first minister to test positive for Covid-19

Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe has become the first minister in South Africa to test positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.

According to the office of the presidency, Mantashe (65) and his wife Nolwandle Mantashe tested positive on Tuesday and have gone into isolation.

“This was the minister’s third round of tests to be conducted since the outbreak of this virus. Minister Mantashe and Mrs Mantashe are currently in isolation and the minister will continue to work from home,” read the statement send out on Tuesday evening.
