Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, after losing trust in her two most senior investigators, has now instructed the controversial Luther Lebelo, who she appointed as her chief of staff last month, to “monitor” their work.

Lebelo is said to have been instrumental in the sidelining of senior staff who were key to the functioning of Sars, a process that enabled the capture of the institution.
