Communications Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams walked into a storm when she returned from a two-month suspension last week, with a stand-off brewing between her and MPs over the appointment of councillors to the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa).

During her suspension for violating lockdown regulations, Parliament’s portfolio committee on communications processed the list of new Icasa council candidates and took the unprecedented decision to rank them.
