The Gauteng health department received 157 new summonses last year and is facing medico-legal claims worth R1.6 billion in litigation for medical negligence.

This was disclosed in a presentation by the department during a provincial legislature health committee meeting on Wednesday, revealed the DA’s Gauteng shadow MEC for health, Jack Bloom.
