The SABC and labour unions will have a crunch meeting this week to avert a potential strike by staff at the public broadcaster.

The meeting is a last-ditch attempt to explore alternative methods to the proposed retrenchment of more than 400 workers at the SABC, which is under severe pressure to reduce its bloated wage bill.
