Two senior police investigators could be summoned to court in an attempt by defence Advocate Malesela Teffo to corroborate his evidence that the second docket in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial was an inquest docket.
During the trial at the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday, Teffo said the docket implicated the five men in the dock, four of whom he represents.
He argued that the first docket, which was subject to the current proceedings, was opened at Botshelong-Empilweni Private Hospital in Vosloorus, something he found to be highly irregular.

“It was opened by the first officers who were on the scene after they were informed by 10111 [the SA Police Service response line] that there was a shooting. When they [the officers] arrived there, they were told that the victim, Senzo Robert Meyiwa, was taken to hospital in his vehicle, driven by Kelly Khumalo. The police officers arrived at the hospital [and] were taken to the ward where the deceased was.”
On Monday, Teffo claimed that the issue of jurisdiction was pertinent in his defence and questioned a letter written by the National Director of Public Prosecutions on the backdrop of counsels deliberating on dates in September and November to allow defence Advocate Zandile Mshololo to peruse the contents of the second docket concerning her defence of accused number five, Sifiso Ntuli.

Teffo vehemently opposed the postponement, saying it would be a constitutional violation of the rights of Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, Bongani Ntanzi and Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, whom he represents.
