An opposition party in a Mpumalanga municipality has filed court papers in order to reverse the decision of “brow-beaten” ANC councillors who reinstated a mayor and a speaker who were toppled after a motion of no confidence.

The Civic Voice, one of the three opposition parties in Lekwa Local Municipality in Standerton, wants the Mpumalanga division of the high court in Middelburg to ensure that the vote of no confidence against Mayor Linda Dlamini and council speaker Khosi Khota, which was passed on February 10, is sustained.

The ANC reinstated both Dlamini and Khota on June 5 in a council meeting that Civic Voice president and councillor Nicholas Selepe feels was not properly constituted.
