The fiercely contested ANC KwaZulu-Natal conference this weekend pointed to three factors: there are corners of the country where President Cyril Ramaphosa is not a universal choice; in his home province, former president Jacob Zuma continues to enjoy sympathy; and former health minister Zweli Mkhize may still have a fighting chance at the party’s national conference later this year.
