Music and popular culture icon Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse was shocked to see a sensational headline on the front page of City Press, saying he was threatening to leave South Africa.

It was 1985 and the country was burning as the popular uprising against the apartheid regime was gaining momentum throughout the country’s urban centres and townships.
