Kaizer Chiefs will play in front of their home fans for the first time in two years when they host SuperSport United at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi supporters last turned out at any of their team’s home matches in March 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic ground to a halt every aspect of our lives, including sport.

More than 10 000 fans were in attendance when Amakhosi suffered a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu on March 7 2020.

On Saturday, Chiefs, who are known to be crowd-pullers in local football, are again expected to draw a better crowd than the poor turnout that marked the return of spectators to stadiums at PSL matches during the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals last weekend.

Organisers of outdoor events are allowed to fill 50% of a venue’s capacity, provided that the attendees present a vaccination certificate or a negative Covid test not older than 72 hours.

The weekend will also mark the first time that Sekhukhune United supporters get to watch their team live at the stadium since Dinoko (The Porcupines) were founded in November 2020 after the Limpopo club purchased the first division status of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

Sekhukhune will host relegation-haunted TS Galaxy at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on Saturday afternoon.

Generally, the weekend will mark a big reunion between clubs and their followers, except for those whose sides participated in the CAF inter-club competitions, which have long been open for spectators.
