Kazier Chiefs’ title push suffered a big blow after they were handed a 1-3 loss by Bloemfontein Celtic at the Tuks Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday night.

At a time of the season when Amakhosi needed to show their title credentials, the Soweto giants faltered against the Free State side.

The Glamour Boys failed to repeat their heroics from the previous game where they came back from two goals down to win 3-2 against Polokwane City at the weekend.

The result perhaps shows that their miraculous win against Rise and Shine was a flash in the pan and that the team is lacking championship mentality.

It was a missed opportunity to extend their lead to nine points at the summit.

Celtic did Mamelodi Sundowns a huge favour as the gap at the top remains only six points with a game in hand for the chasers.

Chiefs took the lead through Eric Mathoho in the 35th minute.

After conceding that goal, Phunya Sele Sele came back with a vengeance. Sera Motebang scored the equaliser in the 45th minute and gave his team the lead minutes later in the 48th minute.

In the 74th minute, Victor Letsoalo hammered the final nail in the coffin to seal the three points.

Sundowns now have the opportunity to reduce the gap to three points when they face Maritzburg United on Friday.
