British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was slow off the mark when the other countries were scrabbling to contain the spread of the deadly Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. As countries shutdown by going into lockdown, Johnson was still happily shaking hands and telling people there was no reason to worry.

But the reality soon hit hard, landing him in hospital. Like other football leagues in the world, the EPL was brought to a standstill on March 9 after Leicester City easily disposed of Dean Smith’s Aston Villa side in a crushing 4-0 win.

Given England’s slow start to joining the fight against the global pandemic, it is hardly surprising that the PL is among the last leagues to restart.
