South African sports fans will have to wait a while longer before they are allowed back into stadiums, as government is unwilling to take any chances during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa will not be giving sport any preferential treatment with regard to the regulations.

Ministerial spokesperson Masechaba Khumalo told City Press this week: “Sports fans will be treated the same way as the rest of the population in terms of what’s allowed at each alert level. The minister has a vested interest in not only limiting the number of Covid-19 cases, but reducing them.”
