World Cup champion Wille le Roux this week underwent unexpected surgery in Somerset West to have his appendix removed.

When Le Roux began experiencing stomach pain on Tuesday night, he first thought it was the pasta he had eaten earlier that evening.

The 30-year-old did not immediately realise the seriousness of his condition and went for a 10km run on Wednesday morning, hoping the pain would go away. Le Roux had no idea he was in danger and his appendix could burst.
