As expected, treble-winning champions Mamelodi Sundowns dominate the nominations of the PSL awards announced on Thursday.

For the first time in their history, the awards will be held virtually next Thursday.

With 12 nominations, the awards will likely be a Sundowns show after they won the league, Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup last season.

Themba Zwane could finally win the Footballer of the Season Award after having been overlooked over the years. The skilful winger is also nominated for the Players’ Player of the Season and Midfielder of the Season awards.

In the much-converted Footballer of the Season gong, Zwane will be up against his team-mate Gaston Sirino, Samir Nurkovic of Kaizer Chiefs and Peter Shalulile, who played for Highlands Park (and is now at Sundowns).

Former Sundowns and new Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane is nominated for the Coach of the Season award alongside former Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp and Eric Tinkler of Maritzburg United.
