A significant number of soccer exports followed after South Africa’s readmission to the international sporting scene in 1992. It was in 1993 when the first batch, made up of Fani Madida, John “Shoes” Moshoeu and Donald “Ace” Khuse, was scouted in the NSL – as the South African league was known then – and signed for clubs in the Turkish Super League.
At the time, that league was ranked among the best football club structures in the world. Then followed Lucas “Rhoo” Radebe and Philemon “Chippa” Masinga, who were signed by Leeds United in 1994.
