Mbali dresses the yummy mummy

Actress and businesswoman Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, who recently became a mom for the second time, has launched a new range of maternity wear called Simply Enhle Preggoz.

She says: “It’s an idea I had when I was expecting my first. The timing wasn’t right then, so I decided to wait and do it when it felt good. When I got pregnant a second time, SE Preggoz was born.”

Mlotshwa says the process of designing the range, from idea to sale, took four years and six months. “Finding [maternity] clothing that’s style-forward has always been a problem, so I ended up buying clothes that were a couple of sizes bigger. However, anyone could see these were big clothes on a pregnant woman, which was just not flattering to the form.”

For this reason, Mlotshwa says her Preggoz range offers “style and comfort” first. Her own maternity style was not dictated by being pregnant and she says that’s why her favourite maternity style has been her own.

“I never dressed just for the belly; I had to make the belly look flattering and ensure that I was happy,” she says.

The range is a great-looking collection of daywear that borrows heavily from the sports-luxe trend, so it has pleated tennis-player skirts, long sweat-top dresses, tunics and pants. Prices range from R199 to R500, so it well priced too.

Asked if she would consider more fashion in the future, Mlotshwa says: “Oh yes, I’m in love with timeless styles.”
