Local actors turn out to show us where love lives

On Thursday, Nu Metro hosted us at the Hyde Park premiere of the local movie Love Lives Here, set in Durban.

My colleague and I arrived an hour before the movie started, so we could have ample time to check out the celebs strutting the red carpet.

While the media people were busy setting up their cameras, I caught a glimpse of Mfana Jones Hlophe – that one guy who always lands supporting roles on our small screens.

He could at least have made more of an effort with his outfit for the occasion, I thought.

Nkanyiso Bhengu, who plays the role of a blesser in the movie, rocked up in a white shirt, jeans and sneakers. The guy was looking so neat and classic, and was more than happy to take selfies with the fans.

The movie’s leading actress, Thando Thabethe (Zinhle Malinga) dazzling in a flowy, metallic Lycra frock, stole the show.

Isidingo actor Motlatsi Mafatshe (Duke in the movie), and his wife, Millicent Nkangane, graced the event in their monochrome outfits.

The madame’s long, lacy dress was stunning.

Nkangane didn’t let her man out of her sight and who could blame you, girl, there are many hungry vultures out there.

The three miners from Isidingo, Vusi Makwela (Makgorometsa), Thulani Mtsweni (Sibiya) and Amos Ketlele (Gatanga) came to support their “mayor”, played by Mafatshe.

I guess love really does live among these actors, even off screen.

But you’d swear they’d been warned about food poisoning as these three gentlemen isolated themselves from everyone else and indulged in their popcorn, enjoying each other’s company, till the movie started.

With his foxy haircut and beard, actor Lungile Radu (Nathi Shange in the movie), also made an appearance on the red carpet with his wife, Bobo Mokgoro.

A photographer, who didn’t know Mokgoro, asked who she was.

I could hear from Lungile’s comeback that he took offence.

“What do you mean when you ask ‘who is this?’ This is my wife, bruh,” responded Lungile.

Almost everyone was seen clutching popcorn boxes and drinks as they were lining up to enter the theatre’s screening room.

The sensuality, wit and amorous vibe of the movie finally caught my attention.

It’s a must-see, a typical romcom with a happy ending.

The movie is out in cinemas from Friday.
