Local rapper Gyre released his new single in May, only to be ostracised by the hip-hop community.

This was the case for queer local rapper S’bonakaliso MG Nene, who’s more affectionately known by his stage name Gyre. The pop rapper’s embodiment and expression of femininity in his latest song Fem Physique became subject to censorship on Twitter and various music publications after its release on 18 May.
