The festival season is fast approaching, and there's nothing better than spending some time in the sun, with your favourite drinks and perfectly curated artist line-ups to keep you entertained.
Though festivals, such as Afropunk, which commemorates and honours Afropunk and black alternative culture through music, art and fashion, haven’t made their way back to South African shores since the pandemic hit, there are still others to sink your teeth into that are still coming your way this year.

Here’s what you can look forward to on the festival circuit for the rest of the year:
Dstv Delicious International Food & Music Festival:
Date: September 24-25
Venue: Kyalami Grand Prix
After a two-year hiatus, this festival is back with a bang. Intended to recover Gauteng’s Tourism Authority (GTA), this year, a whopping 50 000 patrons are expected to create R340 million in revenue for the GTA.
A two-day affair in the sun doesn’t sound so bad either, with acts like Nigerian Afrobeats royalty Burna Boy and the 80s' hip-hop trio, Digable Planets, expected to perform. The Dstv Delicious International Food & Music Festival will be a highlight music festival this year, hosting talent and attendees from all over Africa.
Under the African Sky (Day Party):

Venue: Hillcrest Quarry - Durbanville
Another installment of Psymedia’s Under the African Sky is upon us, and it is the perfect event for festival goers who hate the hassle of finding tents, accommodation, food and water resources at festivals that run for multiple days.
Burning only a R375 hole in your pocket, this year, the festival promises to be an authentic outdoor experience, hosting some of Cape Town’s most influential talents. Igoba Records’ Headroom will be taking to the stage, alongside other acts, such as Miles from Mars and DJ Mark.
Under the African Sky is a beautifully curated festival, which will also have some great food stalls like Blended Food Truck, with their signature vegan, vegetarian and beef food options, and Love Pizza because what’s better than a hot pizza and a cold beer?
Rocking the Daises (RTD):

After making headlines for their lacklustre music line-up, it might be interesting to see what else Rocking the Daises has in store for its patrons this year. For all the curious minds like me, I will catch you at the front row of the festival, waiting to see if RTD is worth all the hype this year.
Rocking the Daises has always been about the drinks and the music. As an authentic music festival one can expect artists such as Focalistic to take the stage this year, alongside acts like US music group Clean Bandit, local rapper A-Reece and amapiano royalty DNB Gogo.
Phase two has already started, so you better head on over to get your tickets soon. Plus, the best part about it is that there are two festival locations in Johannesburg and Cape Town to suit your travel and accommodation budget perfectly.

Magula Productions is bringing you the best women in South African entertainment. This year, the line-up will host acts such as Ami Faku, Simmy and Uncle Waffles. Tickets will onlyy cost R250-R345.
With a starting price of only R100, the Maskandi festival will definitely be the place to be for all things Maskandi, featuring a line-up that includes Amahlebezi and Lekouh S.

As the first of its kind, the Ubungoma Festival reveals what traditional healing and traditional practices entail. It is expected to be a transcendental experience that will bring to the stage some of South Africa’s most influential spiritual healers.

We finally get an intimate look at the lives of some of our favourite social media sangomas with Gogo Skhotheni and Gogo Maweni making guest appearances.
Other performing acts include Sjava, the Qwabe Twins, Blaq Diamond and Lerato Kganyako, who will be spinning the decks.
J.O.M Platinum Jazz Festival
Date: October 29
Venue: Olympia Park Stadium, Rustenburg
The J.O.M Platinum Jazz Festival is returning, brought to you by Doyze Media. This year, they will be honouring the life and times, values, culture, heritage and legacy of Kgosi J.O.M. Mamogale. If that doesn’t float your boat, the event promises to also host some great local and international Afro jazz and jazz acts. We’re excited to see the line-up for this one, but start saving, tickets cost between R300 and R2 000
