The Comedy Central Roast of Khanyi Mbau is looming, and with the tickets sold out, one can conclude that people are indeed looking forward to the roast.

The first panellists were announced on July 6, and one of them is lively radio presenter, actress and socialite Selby “Selbeyonce” Mkhize, who recently bagged the Favourite Radio Personality award at the DStv Mzansi Viewer’s Choice Awards.

Speaking to City Press, the Ukhozi FM presenter said she received the news about being a panellist right after winning her award.

Mkhize said the good news - winning the award and being a panellist - had still not sunk in yet.

She also mentioned that she was preparing a ceremony to thank her ancestors for working overtime.

“It feels amazing to be honoured like this. We have so many great radio personalities out there who are doing amazing work at their respective radio stations. It feels so unreal. From winning an award and now The Roast of Khanyi Mbau, I’m like my goodness, what are gods saying to me?”

The 32-year-old said her hard work was paying off as her journey in the industry started in 2007 as an extra on SABC1’s soapie, Generations.

The bubbly presenter said:

The timing is right. I’ve waited my entire life for everyone to know me and what I’m about. I think this is it. There’s no looking back now. I’ve always said it’s going to happen this year, and finally, in 2022, it is really happening. If you don’t know my name by the end of this year, I don’t know where you stay.

Mkhize said she was happy about the chosen panel and she had a lot of trust in Mpho “Popps” Modikoane as the roast master because he was an amazing comedian.

“Mpho has a lot of shade. Celeste is going to bring it. She’s going to wipe the damn floor. I cannot wait to see Devi wipe the floor with Khanyi Mbau. She (Mbau) has started to roast me, and I am going to roast her to ashes.”

She said that she had people who were helping her prepare for the roast and she was emotionally ready.

The live roast will be recorded at the Teatro in Montecasino on July 21.

It is set to air on Showmax and Comedy Central Africa (DStv channel 122) at 9pm on August 8.
