The year 2019 has been an excellent one for sexual health. From all the questions sent in by readers over the months, here are some sex trends I have noticed:
HIV IS NOT A DETERRENT TO LOVE
This year, we have seen a shift in mind-set, with more people being liberal about dating people who are openly HIV positive. If anything, we have seen that HIV has not been a deterrent to love. The growth of #UequalsU on social media has spread awareness around the fact that a person with an undetectable viral load cannot transmit the virus to their sexual partners.
Sexuality is receiving the respectful approach it deserves. And more importantly, people are willing to learn and explore. This is important because it means more people will engage in safer sex and make informed decisions about their sex lives. More people are realising that healthy, consensual sexual relationships can lead to great gratification. We are happy to keep this one trending.
FEMALE EJACULATION OR SQUIRTING
While anatomically we are all similar, it’s not everyone who can master the squirting, which offers great sensation when it does happen. However, not all squirting equates to an orgasm. Despair not, there are lessons offered to teach women how to squirt! We are happy to see that more women (and people offering these classes) are committed to making women’s sexual pleasure a priority.
ADULT SEX EDUCATION
Sex education is more accessible, and more people seem to have taken an interest in learning more about sex. Educators are able to reach eager learners across the globe, thanks to the power and ease of social media. Adult sex education includes awareness about reproductive rights and the right to access pregnancy termination services. If we’re being honest, this is information everyone should be equipped with.
These trends are leading us in a positive direction in terms of sexual health and awareness. Here’s to greater strides in 2020!
