SA horror 8: More traditional belief research needed, but fresh overall

A demon capturing souls, death and a woman whose insecurities about not being able to conceive children surface when she communicates her distrust to a groundskeeper are ideas that come together to tell the latest South African horror story.

South Africa’s film 8 on Netflix is more of a drama with some suspense than a horror, but, without having watched the trailer, the only hope I had was of not being disappointed by the acting of some of the cast, which I was not.

Set in 1977, the film follows the story of William (Garth Breytenbach), his wife Sarah (Inge Beckmann) and their adopted niece Mary (Keita Luna).
