I commiserate with Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga at her announcement of a phased-in reopening of schools after their closure due to the Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown.

With public anxiety at a peak, Motshekga did her best to justify her decision. Regrettably, scepticism and fear harden emotions about school safety and readiness to resume classes.
