Sub-Saharan Africa is not on track to reach the sustainable development goal on eradicating hunger. Although the percentage of under-nourished people has decreased, from 30% to 23%, the absolute number has increased, from 204 million to 220 million.
According to principal researcher and groundwater focal point at the International Water Management Institute, Karen Villholth, this means the gains previously made are being compromised by population growth, which now stands at close to one billion.
