Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is expected to announce later this month how much of the more than R400 billion of Eskom’s government guaranteed debt his department would take on.

Eskom board member Mteto Nyati has said the dysfunctional work culture at Eskom was a big part of the systemic issues at the power utility and, if they are not addressed, it would be difficult to get out of the current energy crisis.

Nyati said that, while the majority of Eskom employees were dedicated, committed and knew what they were doing, there were a few who were not.
