Online shopping is something South African consumers haven’t adopted – until now – although the technology to do so is as easily and quickly available as in other countries.
Additionally, more South Africans are supporting local businesses rather than international retailers to jump-start the economy amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Statista’s market and consumer data, local e-commerce is expected to reach about R62 million in revenue this year and grow by 10% yearly.
And, with a projected 31.6 million local users by 2024, it’s clear online shopping is going to become more commonplace.
Global research also reveals that online shopping is shifting from desktop to mobile gadgets. Mobile commerce is on the rise, bringing in 46% of the sector’s revenue, compared with 25% from desktops and 9% from tablets. – 3M.com
