Courts orders insurer to pay up

The ruling in the Cape Town High Court this week compelling insurer Santam to honour business interruption claims could be a lifesaver for hundreds of thousands of workers who have suffered because of the Covid-19 coronavirus shutdown. However, Santam has said it will appeal the decision in the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The ruling could have huge implications for insurance clauses and contracts in the future.

State must monitor investment projects

The state must audit investment projects promised to the country at the latest investment summit held last week, says North-West University professor Raymond Parsons. The summit raised R110 billion in investment undertakings, bringing the total since 2018 to R776 billion. Without proper management and implementation, there is a danger that commitments will fail.
