In the bigger scheme of things, it may reflect the actual position of the political leaders on corruption. Not wholly unexpected, several pronouncements were made by the ANC on how it supports the commission and how its members and leaders must fully cooperate with its investigation into corruption.

The views expressed in the leaked audio recording appear to materially alter this position, whatever the context in which the discussion took place.
