When Finance Minister Tito Mboweni compared the economic situation that South Africa is in now with what it was in 1994, he was basically telling us that we are back to the starting point of the constitutional journey we have been on for the past 26 years, only without the formalities of the apartheid system this time.

A new apartheid system has afflicted our republic and has set us back almost three decades. We are back to the situation under apartheid because the mismanagement of that regime collapsed the economy and led South Africa into a debt trap.
