MONDLI MAKHANYA

The couple were visibly afraid of the scores of men who had made their farm home. They were anticipating that they would soon defy the security system that was protecting the farmhouse and bring harm to them. While I was the one asking the questions and furiously scribbling notes, the couple would only look at and provide their answers to my photographer colleague, who happened to be white – like them. No matter how much my embarrassed colleague tried to direct them towards me, I was just invisible.
