NUM demands temporary closure of all mines in Limpopo after spike in coronavirus cases

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in Limpopo has called for the temporary closure of all the mines in the province after a surge in the number of confirmed Covid-19 coronavirus cases.

Phillip Mankge, the region’s secretary, on Wednesday said although the union wanted the mines closed for a while, workers should still be paid full salaries.

“Two big mines around Burgersfort have registered a big number of Covid-19 positive cases in one week,” said Mankge.
