The resignation of Advocate Ishmael Semenya SC from the Johannesburg Society of Advocates (JSA) on Friday – after 34 years as a member – has been supported by some legal practitioners but the JSA remains unfazed.

In his resignation letter, Semenya said the tipping point for him was a resolution taken by the JSA on Thursday to prevent non-JSA members from practising in the Pitje Chambers on Pritchard Street next to the Johannesburg High Court in the city centre.
