Suspended director-general of higher education Gwebinkundla Qonde has alleged in court papers that part of the reason he was shafted was so that Higher Education, Science and Innovation Minister Blade Nzimande could perpetuate “unlawful” conduct in the department.

He added that he had complained about such conduct, leading to his unlawful removal from the post.Qonde was suspended last month, based on the disclaimer audit opinion of the National Skills Fund (NSF), where he is the accounting authority.
