A business rescue plan for Optimum Coal Mine is actually a smokescreen for the takeover of the mine by a former partner of the Gupta family.

This is argued in an urgent court case that has been brought to thwart the business rescuers’ plan to transfer ownership of the mine to Liberty Coal. At the time the company was incorporated in 2020, Daniel McGowan was its sole director.
