NEWS

Nombasa Mawela, Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe’s daughter, has lodged another defamation lawsuit against former Eskom CEO Matshela Koko, after he made statements similar to those he aired in 2017. A comment he posted, accusing Mawela of being a beneficiary of Eskom graft, resurfaced on his social media timeline in May.

In Mawela’s court application, filed last month, she asked the Johannesburg High Court to order that Koko apologise and retract the Twitter statement he had made on May 22, which read: “I told you South Africans in 2018 already that @GwedeMantashe’s daughter was a ‘beneficiary’ of the corruption @Eskom’s Kusile corruption … I nevertheless apologised for saying that because I knew the truth would come out anyway. The truth is now here.”
