The “crack team” appointed by Police Minister Bheki Cele to investigate the murder of footballer Senzo Meyiwa six years ago is being torn apart by bitter rivalries and back-stabbing, with two of the investigators now accused of kidnapping and assaulting a key witness.

The criminal charges, currently in the hands of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), also blow wide open the cracks within the team who are reporting directly to Cele.
