The factional battle between President Cyril Ramaphosa and suspended ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule has spilled over into the best department of education – in the Free State.
Education MEC Tate Makgoe and his head of department (HOD), Tsoarelo Malakoane, are engaged in a political battle that has divided the department into two camps. This might have a detrimental effect on the province’s splendid matric performance, which has outclassed urban provinces such as Gauteng and the Western Cape for several years.
