The embattled coalition government of the Nelson Mandela Bay metro is racing against time to elect a new executive mayor, while banking on a political solution in the ANC to stall plans to place the city under the administration of the Eastern Cape government.
The ANC in the Nelson Mandela Bay region is expected to lead the fight to block the planned dissolution of the coalition-run Port Elizabeth metro on the political front, while the city uses the seven-day deadline it has been given to get the long-time acting executive mayor Thsonono Buyeye confirmed as the new mayor.
